SC08 Education Program Logistics

The Education Program of the SC08 conference will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008, through Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the Austin Convention Center.

Registration

Registration will be in the lobby foyer of the Omni Southpark Hotel from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Friday, November 14. For those of you who will arrive later than 9:00 pm on Friday, registration materials will be available in front of the Education Office (Room 10A, 3rd floor) at the Austin Convention Center on Saturday morning. We strongly advise you to register Friday evening if you arrive in Austin by 9:00 pm.

Housing

If you requested to be included in the Education Program housing block at the Omni Southpark, you should have received a confirmation email, including your reservation confirmation number. If you have not received this email and believe you should have, please let us know.

Hotel Shuttle

The Omni Southpark provides complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport, 7:00 am – 10:00 pm. We have provided the hotel with arrival times for all participants who made their reservations through Travel-On or forwarded us their travel information, and who will stay at the Omni Southpark. Please go to the shuttle pick up area at the Austin-Bergstrom airport after you arrive and look for the Omni Southpark shuttle. If you arrive before 7:00 am or after 10:00 pm, you will need to arrange your own transportation to the hotel.

Busing

Saturday morning there will be two buses leaving the Omni Southpark Hotel at 6:30 am to take you to the Austin Convention Center, arriving in time for breakfast at 7:00 am. One of the two busses with circle around and pick up more attendees at 7:00 am. It is important that you are prompt, as these buses will not by making multiple trips and the normal bus schedule will not begin until Saturday afternoon.

By Saturday afternoon the conference buses will begin normal services hours. You can find the bus schedule in the hotel and convention center lobby.

If you are not staying at the Omni Southpark Hotel, you are responsible for your own transportation to the Austin Convention Center on Saturday morning. Conference buses will begin Saturday afternoon and travel to and from the Austin Convention Center and all conference hotels.

Beginning Session

Saturday morning will begin with breakfast at 7:00 am (Ballroom D, 4th floor) and the first session will begin at 8:30 am with the Welcome and Opening Keynote (Ballroom E, 4th floor). You can find the SC08 Education Program agenda here: http://www2.krellinst.org/sc08edu/agenda.html

Laptops

Intel has graciously loaned laptops to the Education Program for participant use for the duration of the program. Distribution will begin Saturday morning in front of the Education Office (Room 10A). These laptops will be programmed with all software necessary throughout the program and will need to be returned by 5:00 pm, Tuesday, November 18.

You are welcome to bring your own laptop, but keep in mind some sessions may require programs not installed on your computer.

BOFS

Birds of a Feather sessions (BOFS) will be held from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. BOFS are casual sessions where participants meet to discuss a certain topic of interest. Please send us any suggestions you have for these BOFS.

Posters

The Education Program Poster Reception will be Saturday, November 15, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in the Oaks Room at the Omni Southpark Hotel. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. If you have not submitted a poster abstract and would like to present a poster at the reception, the deadline has been extended to Friday, November 7.
